Andy Rooney does it again! My War is Andy's autobiographical sketch of a journalist's life in World War II. Andy is "in the trenches" with the likes of Ernie Pyle. His assignment is writing for the Stars and Stripes. Quintessential as the account may be, the cover of My War shows Andy, as usual, snubbing his nose at authority as he smokes a cigarette lounging against a munitions stockpile.
In a recent interview, Andy said, "We only felt authentic if we joined the pilots on the bombing missions." As usual, Andy is honest about irreverence, that is why we willingly forgive him and even more willingly read his unsophisticated commentary. |
